Stop Wasting 12th Grade.

A Private, Mastery-Based Finish Line for the Independent Learner.

Enrollment Open for Jan 5, 2026 Launch.

Liam D. Gray, Headmaster

Meet the Headmaster

I am an engineer turned educator.

As a Carnegie Mellon and Qualcomm engineering alum, I know what technical rigor looks like. As a Certified Teacher, I know how to scaffold that rigor so students can reach it.

I founded Sonora Socratic to fix a broken model. In traditional schools, students waste hours on busywork while teachers waste hours on grading.

I have automated the busywork.

I use custom-built technology to handle the logistics of schooling, allowing me to spend my energy on the one thing that actually matters: mentoring your student.

The Sonora Socratic Method

We are an asynchronous virtual school, but we are not "set it and forget it." We replace multiple-choice guessing with human verification.

The Tech

We use AI to generate unlimited, unique practice problems until the student achieves mastery.

The Human

No grade is final until the student passes an Oral Defense. Core subject oral defenses are conducted by subject-matter experts. I personally interview programming students to ensure they truly understand the material. You cannot cheat a conversation.

The Outcome

A transcript that actually means something, and a student who knows how to speak, defend their ideas, and solve problems.

Our Philosophy

True education isn't about memorizing facts. It's about the ability to defend your ideas. At Sonora Socratic, we combine the rigor of Socratic inquiry with the power of modern engineering.

Through oral exams, peer review, and public defense of your technical projects, you won't just learn to code. You will learn to think, speak, and build with authority.

The unexamined code is not worth writing.

Program Director

"I spent years as a Senior Engineer at Qualcomm. I realized schools were teaching syntax, but not leverage. I built The Automator's Guild to teach teens the skills that actually get you hired: Automation, System Design, and AI Integration."

Liam D. Gray

Carnegie Mellon Alum • Ex-Qualcomm Engineer

"His professionalism and programming skills not only kept our project on track, it defined the methods we followed."

Bill Murphy

Engineering Manager

"Liam is a sincere and hard working guy who has a 'do what it takes' attitude. I primarily remember him as a problem solver who could quickly analyze and fix software bugs."

Ram Krishnan

Senior Developer

"Liam is incredibly professional... The relationships he builds are with not just students, but families and work peers."
